Xian Grand Mosque

Inside the main prayer hall(the Mosque) of this beautifully sculptured structure, are walls draped in a rich wood, engraved with the words of the Holy Quraan. Every wall, from the doorframe to the b-pillars- enveloped in this striking, handmade wood craft.
Painstakingly crafted- to perfection. Not a single world amiss. No spelling mistakes, no oversights. Faultless, like the words it bears.

A close up of one of the walls. Pictured is the starting of the 76th Chapter (Surah), in the 29/30 Section(Juz’), tittled Al-Insan: The Human Being. The first line translates to “Has there not been over Man a long period of Time, when he was nothing – (not even) mentioned?” ]

Another close up of one of the supporting walls, this time showing the sheer vastness of it all. From the ceiling to about chest height, all 6236 verses of the Quraan.

The well maintained varnished verses span the entire length and breadth of the Mosque. Below the wall etchings are paper copies of the Holy book, every verse identical to that on the wooden panels.

6236 verses, containing 320,015 individual letters, scribed into the walls of this Mosque.
