Scooby.

There something special about a Subaru. It’s just something about the way these cars have been created. The drawings of a dreamer. There’s just something so intriguing- inviting- about the shape and style of the Impreza. It’s by no means pretty- there Is no flowing lines and accentuating curves. Rather juxtaposed to that are the sharp drop offs, the industrial boxiness, a brute untamed.

A sense of rawness encapsulated. It’s actually very Japanese in my opinion.

The Japanese car industry- love or hate them- are the last words in realiblity. And in order to make realible cars, you have to make good cars. And good cars have spirt. And cars with spirit stir emotion. And emotion creates a bond. And an icon is born.

The 2005 Scooby Impreza is probably one of the  best of cars of the naughties. When most cars and brands were finding themselves and trying to find a way into the 2000’s, Subaru, were banging it.
Colin McRae had firmly planted his name and that of the WRX STI into the minds of Motorsport fanatics all over the globe after winning the World Rally Championship in ‘91 and ‘92, and the Word Drivers Championship in 1995 as the youngest ever winner, a record that still stands 24 years later. This was also around the dawn of the PlayStation era, and the infamous Colin McRae Rally games that captivated a generation. In 1998 the first McRae Rally game was released, and people went bonkers. You could now drive like a maniac in your familiar blue Subaru right from your bedroom. The love affair continues till today, with the latest evolution of the game, now branded as Dirt Rally, and released in 2015, was touted “ the best rally simulation at the moment and one of the best racing games of all time.” The ease of access coupled with the nostalgia ment that when those kids that grew up with McRae on TV, went out to get their driving licenses, the natural choice was the Subi Impreza. The WRX reached cult classic status almost immediately, they were so sought after. People bought them, modded them and drove their hearts out. From 1994 to 2009 wrexys stole the hearts of millions. And then the Impreza grew up.
2012 marked doomsday. Not for the world, but for the Prezzi. The once nimble, agile, chirping spring chicken had now become a fat, bloated shadow of its former self. A lumbering Olaf that handled like a boat. It was a catastrophe, and the car sales showed. The Impreza had become corporate. All that history, heritage, prestigious- all meant nothing. All this shared with the original hero that drove McRae to all those victories was the badge.
The canvas of dreams was torn to shreds.
