For this next set, we’re taking back to the skies.
This week the nation celebrated its 90th anniversary, and the country went all out. For the first time, a proper air show was organised, and it was rumoured to be a banger. After getting wind of the news, I knew I had to make a plan to be there to watch it go down.
If you know me, then you know I am transfixed with anything that has wheels and an engine. So, of course, I had to be there.
They had been posting about it on social media, and it was said to start at 5 pm, sharp. This was the middle east; nothing ever starts “sharp”, so everyone assumed that 5 means 5:15 or 5:30.
Not me. People moving at a normal walking pace can afford to be 15 minutes late. When you’re travelling 350km/h+ with other similarly paced vehicles, everything has to be synchronised. A time delay is a disaster, and would be avoided at all cost. 4:59 pm and I was waiting on the pier, while everyone else was busy being stuck in traffic and finding parking. At 5:00 and 51 seconds, the first squadron made their flyover.
And I was five again.
