Dead Men Tell No Tales.

But these do.
The scale of these statues are almost incomprehensible. You have to understand what a phenomenal achievement this was. In my opinion, it might even rival the scale of the pyramids. Honest.
There are over 8000 Men. Each individual man is over 180cm tall. That’s taller than the average living man of current times. Then there are the horses. 600 of them. All scaled to that of a pony. It is indeed, an astonishing achievement.
And then there’s the archeological achievements. These warrior pits were discovered back in 1974. The restoration is still going on till today. They might have been buried perfectly in tact 2000 years ago, but time and weathering are not a relics friend. Almost all of them had to to be painstakingly matched and reassembled- be it hands, heads, noses, ears. All reattached by hand.

Another lesser known fact is how many warriors are still buried. The problem archeologists face is that these creations were not just built and buried. No no. They’re were moulded, decorated and painted according to there various roles and facial features, and then put into battle formation and buried.
The problem the excavators face, is as soon as the clay is exposed to air, oxygenation occurs, vaporising the meticulous paint jobs almost on contact. We still haven’t figured out a way of preserving the paint, or restoring it accurately.
We’ve come far, but we’ve still got someways left to travel.
