Dystopia.

28 June 2018.

سبحان الله.
So last night (this morning) at around 3am, I couldn’t seem to get any sleep. I was really struggling for some reason, and I had to be up in 4 hours for an exam. Exam week had begun, and I really couldn’t get myself into a decent rhythm for the week ahead. It was warm, but my window was open and a cool breeze was blowing in- so I wasn’t uncomfortable. I had to get some sleep, so I woke up to make some warm milk, as one does, and proceeded to wait for the microwave to do it’s thing. After what seemed like and eternity, and probably waking the neighbors with all the racket my old-timely microwave made, I made my way to the living room to enjoy a warm cup of milk, which I hoped would lull me into a calmness that would put me to sleep. After a couple cautious sips to make sure I wouldn’t incinerate my tongue, I was having an enjoyable warm beverage. I got up to have a look at the mountains for a moment as day broke, and was met with the intimidating sight that was this majestic red celestial body. I stopped dead. Like legitimately frozen. It felt as if the world had stopped. The temperature dropped by like 2°. Was I dreaming? Had I fallen asleep without finishing my milk? Was my vision faltering, betraying me? What had caused this distopian confusion? What it was, was the longest eclipse of the century.
The Blood Moon. A Lunar Eclipse. A sign of the times. And it replaced any ounce of sleep I had with a sheer sense of terror and belittling me in the process.
